An Able Muse Online Masterclass with Aaron Poochigian

Charge! Electricity in Poetry

We all know it—the zap, the frisson that storms the synapses—when we encounter a striking word or phrase in a poem. This class aims to teach the poet how to generate and artfully deploy these electric shocks. With examples drawn from poets ranging everywhere from Philip Larkin to Lucie Brock-Broido, this one-day, two-hour class will provide ample concrete instances from which poets can galvanize their own poetry, as Benjamin Franklin’s kite captured lightning in a key.

Sunday, December 13, 4-6PM EST
regular price $99.95
inaugural price $49.95

Aaron Poochigian earned a PhD in Classics from the University of Minnesota and an MFA in Poetry from Columbia University. A winner of the Able Muse Book Award with Manhattanite (Able Muse Press, 2017), a finalist with The Cosmic Purr (Able Muse Press, 2012), and the current winner of the Richard Wilbur Award, he has also published a book of narrative poetry, Mr. Either/Or (Etruscan Press, 2017), and numerous books of translations with such presses as Penguin Classics and W.W. Norton. His work has appeared in such publications as Best American Poetry, the Paris Review, and POETRY.
